The BubbaTubbs Variety Show

Coming to a theater near you....
Last night the boys decided to drag out every musical instrument they could find and put on a show for us. Simon was of course too shy to actually perform more than 10 seconds, but since this was a first for these two boys we thought it was hilarious. I got them to hold still for 10 seconds to pose for a few pictures.
Simon wrote his own lyrics...the first song went as follows:
"I love guitars in the museum....
My favorite movie is Indiana Jones."
His second melody was:
"I love monster trucks
I love monster trucks
I love monster trucks"

I can hear the music producers banging down our door all ready. They have groupies all ready, including Grandma Hogue who got to witness their first performance last night.

My Sea Otter

Sawyer can officially swim with no vest! Its a day we didn't think we were going to see this summer. Last night the boys and dad decided to go for a "Night Swim" in our pool. Sawyer strapped on his vest and they all dove in. A few minutes later Luke suggested that Sawyer jump in without the vest. I wasn't around to see all of this unfold because I was inside the house getting myself ready for bed. Luke called me out, asked Sawyer to jump in....and I stood there stunned. My little "bug" could swim up and down the length of the pool like a sea otter! It was amazing. Luke threw up his arms like a referee calling a touchdown and said "Another summer goal I can cross off my list!"

One Last Hoo-Rah!

Last night at 11:30 I looked at my husband and said "I want to go to the beach tomorrow." He informed me this morning that it sounded very evil and demanding the way I said it, but nonetheless he got up ths morning and announced we were heading to the beach! What a surprise! :)(Lucky for me I am married to a wonderful man)
After 7 weeks of fun-fun-fun, Luke heads back to work on Monday. The boys still have another 3 weeks until school starts but this feels like summer is officially over. I wanted to go somewhere and play! And play we did! Luke took us to Santa Monica and we spent the afternoon playing in the waves and walking down to the pier. The weather was perfect, so we couldn't have asked for a better day. We could have done without the lunch we had at "Bubba Gump's Shrimp something or other..." but we survived. We even made a trip to my "mecca"....(Nordstrom's Rack) in LA on our way home. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to shop for myself on this trip since its school shopping season. Lucky boys!

Its What I Do....

Taking pictures of my food that is! I love to eat good food. And when I find it, I like to take pictures of it with my camera phone and e-mail it to my husband...or a few friends. They think its hilarious...and silly I am sure. But I like to let others know where to find good food. My husband says I should be a food critic...or more specifically a "dessert critic." I agree.
The picture you see here is from Friday morning at 24th Street Cafe. If you haven't eaten there you are missing out. Its my favorite breakfast (and lunch) spot in Bakersfield. I had the carrot cake pancakes with walnuts and cream cheese frosting....and chicken fried chicken, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy! What can I say, I was hungry. This was my first shot with the carrot cake pancakes and I had to order my "usual" as back up in case it was disgusting. Of course they were delicious and I ate almost everything that was in front of me!

It Smells Good in Here!

Scentsy! Has anyone ever heard of it? They specialize in wickless candles. They are delicious and I am in love. I bought a "warmer" and several varieties of "scentsy bars." I picked up my order on Saturday afternoon and was eager to get it plugged in and going in my kitchen. My first flavor...."Sizzlin' Coconut." I have left it on 24 hours a day and I walked in the door from work today and could still smell it going strong. I was very pleased! You can check it out at www.scentsy.com.

He's Just Not That Into You

So, my single friend was raving about this book last night and asked me if I had read it. Yes...I am happily married, but with the boys being gone this weekend I thought what the heck....so she lent me her copy. I have to tell you this is the funniest book, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they are making a movie based on the book. The movie shares the same title and I THINK is coming out in 2/09. After a few hours lounging by the pool today I am about halfway through this book...... and I have to tell you I was giggling like a school girl after reading pages 60-63. Now go find a copy and lookup those pages! Anyways, I am happy to report two things:
1. My husband really is into me! (thank goodness)
2. I am soooooooooo glad I am not single

Check out the movie trailer at bottom. I think every movie star I have ever seen is in it! Hopefully its not rated "R." I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Where Have I Been??

I had dinner last night with a friend that I met at CSUB almost 10 years ago. (Boy... do I feel old all of a sudden) Anyways, she tells me about these wonderful books she has been reading by Stephenie Meyer. I have never heard of them (and I never have time to read) but they seemed interesting. It turns out the author graduated from Brigham Young University and her books are selling like hot cakes. After dinner last night I came home and noticed on the front cover of this week's "Entertainment Weekly" magazine a huge write up on the "Twilight" series of books.... and they are making a movie! Where have I been? Now I really feel old!

Has anyone read her books...or am I the only person on the planet who hasn't heard of her?? You can see more at http://www.stepheniemeyer.com

IPhone Upgrade is Crap

I bought an IPhone in Sept last year. I WAS loving it. Life was good...until I was forced to install updated software(2.0) on Monday night when I plugged in my phone to my PC to charge. Now my life will never be the same! :) My phone is so whacked out I don't even know where to begin. My biggest complaint is I cannot receive most incoming e-mails unless I turn off my phone and turn it back on. Its really annoying. So, I took the time this morning to get online to get some help at apple.com. I was amazed to find at least 100 postings from customers who were experiencing the same problem. I don't know if that should make me feel better to know I am not the only person experiencing this problem....or worse.
Their new logo should be "Twice the speed, half the size...and zero e-mail."
Did anyone buy the new Iphone 3G?

Busted Camera

Okay...so we are in Florida! We are snapping pictures like no one's business. Next thing I know my camera is no longer focusing. Thankfully we were only 2 days away from heading home and we had snapped about a million pictures all ready. Whats kind of humorous is a few months earlier my father's camera and brother's camera both broke when they were on vacation at Disneyland.
Anyone else's camera break on vacation or right when you needed it most??

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
