Double Digits for Bubba

My big Bubba is the big 1-0.
I cannot believe I have a 10 year old.
Isn't that what all the moms say?! :)
It is true....I can remember that 9lb 9oz baby boy entering our lives like it was yesterday! :)
I thought it was going to be a girl...until Luke whispered in my ear, "Its a boy!"
Bubba doesn't like to break tradition. He is a creature of habit. And since he was sick LAST year, he figured he'd be sick again this year.
Saturday morning we had made plans to head up to Bear Valley to have a little pre-birthday party with Grandma and Grandpa Hogue. Of course Bubba woke up feeling yucky and gloomy. We decided to head up anyways, since his best friend was coming with us.
The weather was good and we had a nice lunch with Luke's parents. Grandma even made some cupcakes and Oreo cookie truffles for dessert.

Sunday morning (actual birthday) I made Bubba and the kids banana chocolate chip muffins.

Bubba got a new helmet and bike for his birthday....since he looked a clown riding a circus bike on his old one.
We saw the bike a few months ago and daddy secretly bought it and put it in layaway. When we left Action Sports at the time, Bubba thought he wasn't going to get it. It was a great surprise to see his face when he found it in the garage.
We went to church and during Sacrament, Bubba fell asleep on the pew. He had all ready napped for 2 hours before church, so I knew he wasn't feeling well. He left church after Sacrament since Tubbs also had a headache. All three kids napped from 2:30 - 3:30.
Sweet birthday present for Luke and I.
For Bubba's birthday dinner he requested breakfast! So we made turkey sausage bread, mama's cinnamon rolls, daddy's breakfast potatoes, bacon, strawberries, and pineapple. It was sooooo delicious.
For dessert, Bubba requested vanilla sprinkle cake balls and Grandpa's home made vanilla ice cream.
All perfectly wonderful.
I like Bubba's taste. I could eat a breakfast like that for every meal!
Grandma and Grandpa Hogue and Bubba's best friend's family joined us for dinner. It was a great night.
The one thing I will remember about Bubba this birthday is how much he loves and tries to take care of his brother. He got birthday money from several family members and he asked me if he could buy something for Tubbs with it. I thought it was a very kind thing to do!
Happy birthday sweet Bubba!
Big Bubba is 58.5 inches tall, weighs 101 pounds, wears a size 14 husky pants and a size 9 shoe.
There is a reason I call him my Big Bubba.
His favorite food is still Panda Express orange chicken but since we are trying eat healthier, he doesn't get it very often. He also LOVES building Legos, Skylanders video games, and Ninjago Spinners.

I'm the Mama

Sometimes I think this fact is forgotten in my house. All three of my precious offspring like to take the law into their own hands on occasion and I have to remind them "I'm the mother and I can handle it juuuuust fine."
I often wish I had video camera in my house so I could record off of those moments. One day I will look back and laugh....and I know the kids will just deny everything...so I need proof.
I am in Young Women's at church and I teach the 12-13 year old girls. One of our Young Woman's leaders is an excellent photographer and she took some photos of the leaders and our children for an activity on motherhood.
The picture turned out great and I ended up getting a framed copy for Luke's office for Valentine's Day. (Like Cousin Eddy says, "Its the gift that keeps on giving the whole year through.") Haha! :)

Big Girl Haircut

Every morning I try to get Wiggy to let me do something with her hair. At one point this morning, she had three pigtails in her hair. When she woke up from her nap and pulled them out, her hair was looking pretty out of control.
After dinner we went to frozen yogurt and Luke and I were admiring Wiggy's stringy mess of hair....laughing at the way her hair does its own thing. Luke suggested we take her over to get it cut and it was the first time I'd really considered it.
So...we drove over to Great Clips.
There was no wait and Wiggy was an absolute gem. She is very, very, very much enjoying being pampered and sitting in front of a mirror while getting her hair played with.
It was very humorous to watch and I was giggling like a 12 year old the whole time as I stood by snapping pictures. Luke and the boys sat in the front of the shop and were giggling we well, as they watched this little girl transform. I wish I had the whole thing on video. At the last minute I even suggested we give her bangs. I don't know what I was thinking but all I know is she looks like a big girl now!

Interesting Week

What a week it was!
Sunday I woke up with a cold sore. UGH.
I popped a prescription pill and took a nap before church. On the way to church I commented to Luke that I was having some pain in the lower right part of my abdomen. I didn't pay much attention to it the rest of the afternoon.
By the time we got home from church I was feeling queasy. It was at its worst by 6pm and I was curled up in bed. My whole abdomen was aching and I felt really queasy. I woke up after midnight and was feeling a little better but I still have this throbbing pain inthe lower right part of my abdomen. When I woke up on Monday morning I headed out to the Urgent Care...who sent me over to the ER.
I checked myself in and they hooked up to an IV, took blood and did a CT scan.
The CT scan wasn't able to show the appendix, so I remained in the ER the rest of the afternoon, drugged up on pain medicine, seeing in total three different doctors. Final verdict was I could be discharged after I drank a nice concoction that was going to clean me out. If I still had the pain in the morning I was to head over to the surgeon's office for another exam. I drank two small containers of thick orange syrup and then a "sparkling lemon laxative."
It was soooooooo disgusting.
It could've been worse...I know this. I have had to drink some nasty stuff in the name of medicine.

They discharged me around dinner time and I headed home to sit on the toilet in peace! :) Oh, it was going to be a great night.
(Thankfully Luke's mom came down to help out so Luke was able to come visit with me twice during the day)
I fell asleep after I got home and woke up a few hours later at 9pm. I thought for sure something was alive in my abdomen. The pain....the cramping.
Heaven help me.
I'm really looking forward to when I have to do this again for a colonoscopy. :)
The next morning (Valentine's Day) I went to see the surgeon and he gave me another exam, as well as checked for a hernia. His best guess was an ovarian cyst. Thankfully, the pain was only half as bad as the day before, which was a good indicator that it wasn't appendicitis.
Nobody wants to have surgery, but Monday as I laid in the ER I was trying to calculate how I was going to squeeze in getting my appendix removed with everything else going on and missing work.
My prayers were answered...once again.
I followed up with my doctor this morning and he told me they should have done a pelvic ultrasound in the ER, to verify what it was. If it was a cyst, it sounded like it had burst and it wouldn't show up now in an ultrasound.
Perfect.
On the bright side, the gift Luke got me for Valentine's Day arrived Wednesday night while he was at a school board meeting....which meant he didn't get to see me squeal with delight when I opened the package. (You like my Adidas sweat pants Im modeling with them?!) :)

He also got me Kings "Jimmer" ladies jersey that I can't wait to wear. It sure would be nice to see a game before the season ends. :(
Let's just say this was a Valentine's day/week I would rather forget--with the exception of the Frye boots and the jersey. :) I'm no fool!
Apparently the cyst thing is fairly common in women, BUT it has caused me to reflect on the preventative care of my body. I have scheduled a few other appts with other doctors. I guess I better take better care of this body since it's the only one I get!

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
