Tubbs Turns 11

Tubbs' birthday fell on a Sunday this year. It was Stake conference at church and we ended up not going because Bubba was sick. He came home on Friday with a fever and sore throat. Saturday he had a fever and he was up through the night, not able to swallow. I was so tired from being up with him that we all played hooky. I felt bad for Tubbs because not only was it Sunday, but we were tending to Bubba on his special day.
Tubbs had requested mama's cinnamon rolls for his birthday breakfast. After breakfast Tubbs showered and got cleaned up. I took him for a bike ride around the neighborhood for about an hour. After we got home I took him to Sweet Surrender to pick up cupcakes that Grandma Hogue had ordered for him. After we got back from that pick up, I took Bubba to Urgent Care. We had an "appointment," but we still waited FOR-EVERRRRRRRRR. We didn't get home for three hours by the time I had dropped off the prescription. The good thing was I able to catch up on my scripture reading. (Gotta look at the bright side sometimes.)
Tubbs requested a birthday dinner, with French Toast. Tubbs doesn't like bacon or sausage, so he kept it simple with a side of eggs. Tubbs also doesn't like pepperoni...which I think should be a sin. Who doesn't like bacon and pepperoni?! For birthday dessert he requested a pazookie from BJ's. Bubba was still not able to eat and had a fever, so he stayed home. We brought him home a vanilla shake which aside from a breakfast cinnamon roll, was the only items he consumed all day.
All in all I think Tubbs had a very quiet, low key birthday. I enjoyed riding around with him for a bit and talking with him. He received his birthday gift two weeks before his birthday, so I think having it before his actual birthday took a little bit of the fun away.

Popping birthday balloons with a whopping $11 cash inside.
His birthday gift....a "fixi bike." He used his birthday cash to buy new blue pedals, handlebars wrapped with yellow tape and a red chain. It's like a rainbow bike. Hahaha.

A few days after his birthday Luke picked up Tubbs from school and took him to a birthday lunch at Wendy's. Tubbs swears they have the best burgers.
For his birthday party Tubbs invited a few friends to go watch Paul Blart - Mall Cop 2.

Padres Opening Weekend

Padres baseball. We couldn't wait for baseball to start up again. Last summer we purchased two season tickets for the 2015 season. The two seats will get us 13 games with all five of us. We had tickets to opening day, but two weeks before the game Luke realized that he had a work function he had to attend, so we had to sell the five seats. The good thing is we were still able to attend two other games opening weekend.
Friday morning we met up with Aunt Thelma and Uncle Dennis for breakfast at the Original Pancake House. It was pretty darn good. At Thelma's recommendation, I tried their specialty, the apple pancake. I couldn't eat the entire thing, so Luke and the kids enjoyed a few bites with me. I would definitely eat it again!

Friday evening was our first game of the season/ We played the Giants and won. Awesome.

Saturday morning we had breakfast at the Broken Yolk and again, we weren't disappointed. I think it might've been the best biscuit and gravy I've ever had. The biscuits were amazing. After breakfast we walked around Seaport Village, which was a lot of fun.
The game started at 5:40 so we got over to the park around 3:30pm. It's always nice to hang out inside the park and enjoy the nice weather. Luke and Tubbs had Hodad's for dinner while laying on the grass.  Tubbs likes their burgers.
We played the Giants again and won. Thank goodness. It was a high scoring game and we were hitting very well. It's always fun to watch when you're blowing the other team away! :)
After the game was over we headed home. Long drive on a Saturday night. We got in around 1am.

Easter Break 2015

Some years I take off the week of Easter break but this year I took off Monday/Tuesday so I could go visit some back surgeons down south. I asked Luke if him and the kids wanted to come with me and we could stay the night. He was reluctant about waiting with the kids while I was in appointments, but eventually I broke him.
We left early Monday morning. My first appointment was at 11am in Newport Beach. We grabbed lunch after that at Cafe Rio in Manhattan Beach. Then we headed to Marina Del Rey to another appointment. After that appointment we headed to Hollywood, to the Universal Walk. Luke made a reservation for Tubbs and Wiggy to skydive." We thought we were going to miss the time slot they gave us because traffic was horrific, but we made it right on time.
They ended up LOVING the experience and they looked so cute in their gear we had to get some photos.

The next morning Wiggy's eye looked red. After breakfast we headed home. Wiggy wanted to keep a wet napkin on her eye and this is how she fell asleep.
Tubbs had his friend Tanner come over and stay the night. We had Red Robin for dinner.
Bubba slept over at his friend Alex's house for two nights, so Wiggy asked to sleep in his bed while he was gone.
Easter cards from Grandma and Grandpa Baer, with strict instructions to spend the cash on Easter candy when it goes on sale. :)
Dying Easter eggs.
Always a treat to referee the kids and keeping them from dying their clothes.
Sitting on the curb, waiting for the boys to get back from their bike ride.
Daddy moved the TV from our bedroom out to the backyard and hooked up the DVD player. He aired up some mattresses, drug out pillows and blankets, and watch "The Rookie." It was a great idea.
Easter morning....ready to hunt eggs.
Easter morning breakfast. It was General conference on TV, so we didn't have church.
Grandma and Grandpa Hogue came down to have Easter dinner with us and brought chocolate bunnies.

The day after Easter I took a vacation day, so I could stay home with Luke and the kids. We headed down to the Riverwalk before lunch. I ran a few miles and the kids rode their bikes.

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
