We love August, but it's bittersweet because that means summer vacation is nearing an end. Of course when school starts up, the football game start and we love watching those. Tubbs plays on Saturday afternoon and Bubba plays on Fridays at 5pm.
We went to our first baseball game at Dodgers stadium because the Padres were playing. That stadium was not my favorite and parking stunk. We also lost...so I wasn't too happy. :)
Getting blood drawn like a big girl. She wanted to cry but I made her laugh. :)
We went shopping and he accidentally bought a boys medium that was in the pile with Men's medium. I had to get a photo of his little shirt.
Elder Tasi from New Zealand was one of our favorite missionaries. The elders has dinner with us the day before he was transferred out and heading home.
Wiggy and Sammy, the neighbor dog. She walks him after school when she gets the urge. Haha.
This year the first day of school fell on a Thursday for Tubbs and Wiggy. It's kind of a weird day for the first day of school, but it's a nice way to break in the year I suppose. Haha. I took off work Monday through Wednesday and then headed into work after I took Wiggy to her classroom on Thursday.
Bubba's first day of high school was the day before, on Wednesday. He peddled off to seminary at 5:45am to meet up with his friends.
Summer break is officially over!
Bubba had Mrs. Kostner for 3rd grade and we absolutely love her. We have been waiting a long time for Wiggy to be in her class!
Tubbs and his friends Angus and Tanner on the first day of school.
Before school starts I have the kids fill out this questionnaire...
Tubbs stayed home from camping with Grandma and Grandpa Hogue, but every practice ended up being cancelled because of heat. So on Thursday I asked him when he wanted to do on the Friday I had off. I asked him if he wanted to go to Magic Mountain or Disneyland. After a little thought he chose Disneyland! Yay!!
So we drove down Thursday afternoon and stayed in a hotel in Anaheim. Friday morning we ate breakfast at the hotel and walked to the park! We spent the first half of the day over at California Adventure. He didn't want to ride the Guardians of the Galaxy ride, but I told him he would love it--and he did. In fact, I think it was his favorite.
Later in the afternoon we left the park and walked over to Cheesecake Factory for a late lunch. Then we walked back over to CA. I had so much fun with just my little Tubby boy. He is turning into a little man and he doesn't like hanging out as much as he used to, but we had a great time. I hope it's a day he will remember when he gets older! :)
I love you Tubby Tubbs.
Space Mountain
This summer the kids went on their annual camping trip with Grandma and Grandpa Hogue. The snag in the plan came when Tubb's football team suddenly declared all practices were mandatory a few days before they were scheduled to leave. Sadly, Tubbs had to make the decision to stay home from the trip.
So early Sunday morning we drove up to Tehachapi and saw Bubba and Wiggy off for the week. They lose reception once they get to a certain point, so I always miss hearing from them through the week.
On Sunday evening I got a text message from my friend Sarah Stevens in Temecula. They were camping in the same campground as my kids and she saw them! She sent a few photos through the week when she was in Bishop shopping. Wiggy played with her two little girls through the week, so I thought that was fun too. Wiggy and Helena have visited each other a few times over the years when I meet up with Sarah in San Diego.
Saturday afternoon Tubbs was so happy to see his brother and sister. I think he enjoyed the peace and quiet and getting some extra attention--but he really did miss them.
That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....
So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
