Camping Trip for Tubbs
Tubbs got to go camping the week after Bubba. Luke met Grandma and Grandpa Hogue in Tehachapi on Monday morning and made the bug "hand off."
Like Bubba, this was his first time away (overnight) without brother.... but it looked like he had a good time. He was supposed to stay one more night but REALLY wanted to come home. We missed you too Tubbs!

Stopped for some sunglasses on the way up. (Gotta look cool in case there are cute chicks at the camping spot!)

Camping Trip for Bubba
Grandma and Grandpa took Bubba camping for 3 days up in the mountains. Bubba was very excited. The limited cell phone reception made it difficult for me because we couldn't talk to Bubba whenever we wanted to. Bubba has never been away from us this long without his brother. But Bubba is pretty independent so he did pretty good.
Grandma did tell me afterwards that Bubba had a few moments where he wanted to come home. (I was secretly glad that he missed us)
Grandpa Hogue loves to fly fish and since the boys haven't ever tried it, it looks like they picked right up on it. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Hogue for the trip.

A fish!

Bubba's feet are so big he can wear Grandma's water boots!

Snuggled up in bed

Sailor Girl
Petunia had her 9 month pictures taken by Julie and I don't know if I could love them anymore. Julie is so sweet and patient and I LOVE that we can take our time.

Father's Day Love
“By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he’s wrong.”…………. Charles Wadsworth
Every year in April/May I begin pondering the special day and what I'll "do" for the fathers in my life.
I have all sorts of magical, spontaneous ideas.
My problem lies in the execution of these ideas.
I have a tendency to procrastinate....even more than my norm.
Oh well---there's always next year, right!? :)
This year our Father's Day celebration began the day before, on Saturday. For weeks Tubbs has been saying he wanted to take Luke to see Toy Story 3 for Father's Day. So, after we got home from a long day at the swim meet (in Shafter)we changed, ate and headed to the 3:45 show. We got a babysitter for Petunia so I could actually watch the movie instead of holding the baby in the lobby.
(Thank you Morgan Montana!)
The movie was swell. I LOVE Toy Story 1 and 2.
This addition to the series was still great, but different.
At one point there was a part that made the boys and I all cry at the same time. Luke was looking at me and the boys like we had two heads.
I thought it was very sweet.
I am glad Tubbs had the idea to take Luke to the movie. It was a great time.
BTW, the next time you get popcorn at the movie, you have to try this:
Slather it up with a lil butter and salt....then dump your container of Milk Duds on top.
Pure deliciousness!
Trust me.
On to Father's Day morning.
We all arose before big daddy.
(Anyone who is surprised by this, please raise their hand)
The boys decorated Luke's gift bag and made him each a card. (They HAVE to make handmade cards now for everything because its something I know we'll look back at and treasure)

(Maybe they'll work for Hallmark one day)

Tubbs' side of the gift bag

Bubba's side
Anyways, we woke Luke up, gave him the gifts/cards and announced breakfast:
Donuts!
The perfect breakfast for Father's Day (and the kids of course) :)
Quickly we got ready for church and amazingly we were only 2-3 minutes late. (Which is early for us these days)

After church the man of the day picked lunch.
Did he want a nice homemade meal?
Heck no. He didn't want to be stuck in the kitchen today!
LOL
Sequoia Sandwich was his choice. We picked it up and brought it home. Thank goodness the weather was so nice.

Cookies for dessert!
After lunch Luke's mom and dad came down for a few hours. Again, the weather was so great we were able to spend time on the back patio! Happy Father's Day Bob!

Happy Father's Day to my dad, "Pops."
I am sorry we couldn't be with you and the family...so you'll just have to quit your job, sell your house and move closer to us.
Sounds like a great plan. Love you dad.

And finally...Happy Father's Day Luke.
The kids and I are better for having you in our lives and as the head of our household. Thank you for being such a wonderful, supportive dad. We love you!

Realizations...Observations....Whatever you want to call it.
I need a mind recorder.
You have heard of voice recorders. Since I am not one to talk to myself out loud (not yet anyways), I would really like something that would record my every thought. That way, I could go back to whatever time I needed and be able to recall ALL the brilliant ideas I have.
(Yes, I have had a few...I just can't remember them)
A new washer/dryer doesn't make "doing" laundry any more enjoyable.
Sure it plays a little musical chime when each cycle is coomplete and it has more fancy buttons to push...but I am over it.
Obviously they haven't created a contraption that transports the load from the dryer to the table, folds it and puts it away.
I would sell my firstborn child for that appliance!
Maybe.
There will never be enough time.
So I mind as well get busy.
The past 12 months have been uncharacteristic for me.
I used to brag to my husband that I was an "expert planner/scheduler."
I tell myself its the whole "3rd child thing."
But I know that's just an excuse.
Procrastination + laziness = chaos
I don't like it. But only I can change it.
Its time.
Its really time....to get my rear end back to the gym.
Luke and I cancelled our memberships at the gym last year since we never went.
Last week we finally decided that it was time to go back.
Two years ago I began limiting exercise as I prepared for hip surgery.
2 months after hip surgery I found out I was pregnant.
Petunia is 10 months old and the "itch" is back.
Yesterday I got on the treadmill and for 40 minutes.
I haven't ran in a looooong time. Walked really fast, yes.
But ran, no.
It felt good....amazingly.
But not today.
Today I feel like a 33 year old woman who hasn't exercised in 2 years.
The nest is not complete without all of my chicks.
Sometimes it sounds really nice to have one of the boys gone for any amount of time. But it always sounds better then it really is. Last week Bubba went camping for a few days. The first night he was gone, things just didn't seem "right."
Whatever "right" feels like. There was no arguing....and it was very quiet.
In my house, that's just not normal, much less right.
Its really, really , really hard to be at work when Luke is at home frolicking with the kids.
Luke was sharing the upcoming week of events he had prepared and I stopped what I was doing in kitchen and said, "I wish I could stay home with you and the kids everyday and just play."
He chuckles and says, "You write a vampire book(s) and you can do whatever you want."
Turd.(He is of course referencing Stephanie Meyer)
I told him him HE needed to write a vampire novel.
What I see in the mirror everyday doesn't align with how I picture myself in my head.
Does that make sense?
In my head I still look like I did 10-15 years ago.
I am 33 years old.
I have had three children.
I have been married for 10 years.
I have spent A LOT of time in the sun....(and enjoyed every minute of it.)
I have wrinkles, age spots...and oh so many more delights. I constantly have to remind myself that I can never go back to 1994 and I need to appreciate what I am today. When I am 80 years old I am going to look at a picture of me from 2010 and remember how delicious I was.
Yes, I like the word DELICIOUS.
I think Peter Pan was brilliant.
Do kids really have to grow up??
At the rate I am on my knees praying now, I can't imagine what its going to be like in another 5-10 years.
In primary today, Tubbs accepted a 7 day challenge to try and be a peacemaker in our home. Bubba on the other hand did not and told me tonight "that it was too hard being a 'peacemaker' and that he forgets."
How do you forget exactly?
I had to give him the "choose-the-right lecture" and his eyes were rolling back in his head.
This is going to be so much more fun when he hits the teenage years and he is towering over me...I can tell.
There is nothing like shaving your legs to make you feel skinnier.
Thats all I have to say about that.
I should probably do it more often....
:)
My husband really is my best friend...and can talk me down from almost any ledge..
I am so thankful that Luke and I were friends before we started dating. (I can remember him giving me dating advice)
So funny to think back on those EARLY days. (Maybe he was giving me bogus advice on purpose!?)
Hmmm....
Anyways--I think I could be stranded on a desert island forever with this man and be okay.
(I don't know...let's hope that never really happens and I find out otherwise) :)
You bring about what you think about.
Last year we participated in a marriage class at church and this piece of advice has helped me through MANY trials.
Find the good in each day.
That's what I aim to do.
I may not always accomplish that goal, but the great thing is I have a new chance every morning when I roll out of bed.

10 Month Bug
Petunia is only two months away from turning the big ONE.
Seriously?!
10 things about baby girl:
1- She has three beavers, but she will EAT anything she can get her hands on. I never had this blessing with the boys. She loves anything that she can cram into her mouth. Thankfully she doesn't appear to be allergic to anything yet.

Trying out a strawberry at Murray Farms
2- Very little seems to really "bug" this girl. She can have a diaper "full" and be perfectly content in her high chair or car seat. I have experienced this on several occasions and I am not sure if this is a good thing or not. She is also a "dirt girl" at heart. She can have anything on her face and hands and it won't bother her in the least. (She must be related to Bubba....like there was every any doubt)
3- She is a fashionista. Courtesy of Grandma Hogue she has quite a few handmade britches (bloomers) with her name labeled on them. We call them the "Scouty Collection." (Maybe they'll catch on one day.)

(Handmade bloomers and flower on the shirt)
4- I love dressing her on Sunday mornings and trying to figure out what she going to wear. Her everyday clothes are in her dresser drawers, but her dresses hang in the closet. She has acquired quite a collection. Such a collection, its a shame she doesn't go to church everyday! :)

5- She all ready knows how to throw a tantrum. Great.

6- She smiles A LOT and still has her dimples. Which means its very easy to get good pictures.

7- I live vicariously through her and love to dress her like a doll. I cannot wait to get my hands on her hair...when it eventually decides to grow. I have so many things I want to do with her hair, because I know she won't have curls like mama.

8- She is still a mama's girl--- But my husband says the "conversion" is beginning since he is off work for the next seven weeks. (I am not convinced and Petunia told me not to worry!)

9- She loves to rummage through my pantry, which is why we call her "bug-coon." Her latest casualties include a bag of fruit loops from Costco and maple syrup....from Costco. I mention Costco because that way you know the mess is EXTRA large.

10- I painted her toenails for the first time this week. She was passed out on Luke's lap while we watched a movie and I couldn't resist. The job isn't professional, because I didn't want to wake a sleeping giant! She has been so fascinated with my toenail polish lately, I have to admit I thought she would like playing with her "pigs" more. But I don't even know if she notices anything different.

First Sleepover
Tubbs is becoming a big boy and I had to document his first official sleepover...at our house.
He still hasn't been able to sleepover at a house that doesn't belong to Grandma/Grandpa Baer/Hogue. (And that's ok with me)
It was the perfect week for Tubbs to have a friend over. Bubba is gone camping with Grandma and Grandpa Hogue for 4 days, so Tubbs has been a little lonely in the evenings. (Don't get me wrong, he really likes the peace and quiet but Bubba is his partner in crime.)
Tubbs and his buddy came back from the swim meet and played around the house, waiting anxiously until it was dark outside.
That meant it was time to "night swim." Its Tubbs new favorite thing to do, EVERY NIGHT of summer break.
After night swimming, they changed into PJ's and pulled out the couch in the den and watched "Wipeout." The boys mischievously ran back and forth to the bedroom bringing out ALL of Tubbs' babies. (I guess they didn't want to get lonely in the middle of the night.)

I made Tubbs' favorite snack...caramel popcorn. (I can only find it at Winco, so we are stocked up for the summer) The boys enjoyed it fresh from the microwave.

These boys finally passed out aruond 11pm....and didn't rouse until 8am.
(I wish this happened on the weekends when I didn't have to get up early for work!)

Tubbs picked his favorite breakfast....donuts. Then they headed to see the dentist... Which is his buddy's dad.
But thankfully he was cavity free!
After lots of swimming we took a trip to Smith's Bakery for a rainbow cookie. The little manipulators also talked me into some thumb print cookies.

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....
So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
