Little Tubbs' birthday snuck up on us. My little boy turned 12! His birthday was on a Tuesday and unfortunately, Luke also had to leave that afternoon for a work conference. It was a busy week full of activities. He also had football practice for a few hours in the evening.
His morning started out with the traditional cash balloon popping and made out with $12. He requested cinnamon cake for breakfast. He didn't ask for scrambled eggs, but he got those too. :)
Tubbs had to make this for school. When it's your birthday week, you have to make a poster all about yourself.
Tubbs was up earlier than usual because he was so excited. He knew he was going to get to open his gift before school because dad wouldn't be home for dinner.

Tubbs wasn't really hungry for birthday dinner and wasn't feeling well when I picked him up from school. The kids all kind of grabbed a little this and that and it was fine because we were going to have a birthday dinner when Luke returned.
Friday evening Tubbs decided to invite a friend over to stay the night and go to his birthday dinner with us. First stop after school Friday was to locate a suit for church at JcPenney.Thankfully this time around we found something that fit. Tubbs is a difficult boy to shop for. :)

Luke came home on Friday afternoon and we were sitting around the dining room table, trying to decide what to do for dinner. Luke then suggests we head to San Diego for the weekend, take in a Padres game and have Cheesecake Factory for dinner.
Deal!
Wiggy and I ran through the house packing bags and getting everything ready. The boys on the other hand grabbed small bags, stuffed a few items inside and called it good. By 6pm we were out the door and on the road.
We stopped in Glendale for dinner. It was almost an hour wait, which wasn't a surprise. We were back on the road to SD later than expected so we got to the hotel after midnight.
Saturday morning we grabbed some breakfast and then went to see the Jungle Book movie in 3D at Fashion Valley. I grabbed lunch from Luche Libre's in downtown SD, then we headed to Petco Park. The Padres were playing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Game started at 5:40 and we arrived a few hours before it started. We bought the cheapest tickets because we were hoping to upgrade on the app before the game started. unfortunately there were no upgrades available for five seats when upgrades were posted. The good thing is that there isn't a bad seat in the park, so we enjoyed the game.
The game went to 12 innings and lasted five hours! Wiggy and I were done by 10:30pm and I was ready to go to bed! We began slowly making our way out of the park. By the time we made our way outside the stadium and to the park area, Melvin Upton hit a home run to win the game. We were glad we hadn't left the park yet, but we were close.
(Side note: Bubba is claiming to now be a Cubs fan and has converted to the dark side. That's why he's pointing at his lame hat in this photo.)
Sunday morning Luke took Wiggy and Tubbs down to the pool/hot tub. Wiggy begged to go Saturday night, but it was too late when we arrived back to the hotel and it was closed. While they swam for a bit, I got myself ready for the day and got everything packed up. Bubba laid in bed in his undies and played games on his phone. :)
After grabbing breakfast we headed over to Balboa Park, where we couldn't find a place to park if our life depended on it. We searched their website and realized every event in the world was happening that day in the park--so we scratched that idea. We headed to Old Town and grabbed lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant instead.
I love you San Diego....and my Padres. Until next time.....
March is over. We are down the home stretch this school year. Only two months of school left.
Yay doesn't even start to cover it. I love this time of year. It is warming up...the light at the end of the tunnel is nearing.
March kicked off with Wiggy and I away in Idaho. We arrived home on Sunday, the sixth.

"Spring Portraits" from school.
They take these lame photos of all the kids and send them home with the kids. You pay for them or send them back. I never order order them, so I don't even pay attention to when photo day is. It's never been an issue with the boys. They didn't care. Wiggy on the other hand, she will never let me live it down. Apparently one of her friends made fun of her because she wasn't dressed up. In fact she was the opposite of dressed up that day.
Anyways - when the photos came home, I had to take a photo of the pictures before sending them back--- so I could show Wiggy one day and hopefully laugh. Or she has evidence when she tells her therapist what a terrible mother I was.

It's Friday. Give me a thumbs up!
Daylight Savings started and I thought the little fella was just really tired. After church on Sunday he took a long nap, which was unusual. By Monday there was a fever and nausea, so he stayed home. Wednesday was a trip to the doctor, where his flu test came back positive. He was home the entire week so dad and I traded off staying home with the sickie....and his mask. Thankfully no one else caught the virus, so I was thrilled! Those masks are worth every penny!
The Edible school garden held a cooking class one evening and we made several types of pasta. Wiggy loves the kitchen across the street from the school, so she was excited for us to go together. She was able to chop garlic, shred parmesan cheese, stir vegetables on the stove, and wash dishes.
Wiggy's entire class made their Accelerated Reader (AR) goal 3rd quarter. Her teacher said in her 10 years of teaching it was a first for her. I thought it would be fun to put together something fun for the teacher and each of the kids to celebrate. We handed them out on 3/17.
We went to the Nike outlet and got some tennis shoes for Wiggy. I was stunned that she needed a size 7.5 in womens. I had to photograph it!

Early in the school year Luke began to talk about the possibility of leaving Kendrick and taking a job at the District Office. To be honest, I wasn't that thrilled about it. Selfishly, I was thinking about how the change would affect me and the kids. I love having Luke home in the summer! I love that when the kids are out of school, they are home with him. He would no longer be home for seven weeks in the summer and have all of the other holidays off with them. But after praying about it....and thinking about it...it has grown on me. I want him to be happy at work and I really hope the new position gives him what he is seeking. We will work everything out as it comes. He officially started when we return from summer vacation, July 5th.
That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....
So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
