Easter break kicked off with a visit from the Baer's and we were one kid short the first half of the week. I had to work, so we had no special plans for the week.
First item for the week...cutting this girl's hair. It's the same ol' story. Girl doesn't want thick, curly hair combed when she gets out of the shower every morning/night. She doesn't want to wash or take care of thick, curly hair.
Soooooo....mom suggests she cuts it off.
She was a little hesitant at first, but we searched Pinterest for some cute styles....and she agreed. We ended up going to Great Clips since it was a spur of the moment decision. The girl who normally cuts the boys' hair is pretty experienced and did a great job.
With Bubba gone, Tubbs wanted to hang out with his best buddy Tanner. Monday night he stayed over at our house and the next night, Tubbs was over there.
Wednesday was Wiggy day with daddy since mom was at work and brothers were gone! They played tennis, had a picnic at the park, fed the ducks and went to Yogurtland.
Later that afternoon daddy set up the tent in the backyard for Wiggy to play in.
Thursday I got home from work to find everyone loaded up in the car, in the driveway. Luke told me to pack a bag and that we were going somewhere overnight.
In the car he said we were headed to Las Vegas for the night. Wow...what a surprise. I am always up for a roadtrip...so I was excited.
We stayed at the Palazzo, which is there Luke and I stayed last July. We checked into the hotel around 10pm. We unloaded the bags and then walked down to Cheesecake Factory at Caesar's Palace.
This was the kid's first trip to Las Vegas!
Friday morning we checked out of the hotel and grabbed some drive-thru breakfast. We drove over the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop that the guys watch on TV..."Pawn Stars." That was kind of neat. Then we drove to Boulder City to see Hoover Dam.
We left there around pm and made the drive back to Las Vegas to do some shopping. We ate dinner at Hash House inside the Linq Casino, then we headed home! What a quick trip, but so much fun. We were back in Bakersfield by 10:30 on Friday night.
Easter eggs dying started up on Saturday evening, later than planned. I hard boiled the eggs earlier int he day, but we had some last minute shopping to do throughout the day so we got home later than expected. I think the Easter Bunny also needed to make a shopping trip--hence delaying the egg-dying.

This year mama asked Big daddy to take over the basket shopping duties...and it was the right choice. The kids were not disappointed.

After church we headed to the Broken Yolk for brunch. Luke's parents met us there at 12:30. After a busy weekend we weren't really feeling like cooking much, so we dedided to eat out. I think it was a good choice.
After a big lunch we headed back to the house to hunt eggs.
I swear...my kids will be grown adults and still fighting over locating eggs in the backyard on Easter. This is serious business. Bubba made sure Wiggy only got a 30-second head start.
It's not often my family comes to visit or stays the night, so when we get visitors, we are pretty excited.
Easter break began and on Saturday afternoon our visitors began trickling in. Uncle Bobby B arrived first, from Milipitas. (He works there during the week and came to stay with us so he could also see his wife/kids on their way down to SD.) We were VERY happy to see him!
Later that afternoon Grandma and Grandpa Baer arrived with Aunt Lindsay and her three bugs.
It's a Baer par-tay now! :)
These two are just the best thing. I really hope they are always little buddies.
We had tacos for dinner and then everyone just hung out and relaxed.
Sunday morning everyone feasted on cinnamon rolls, eggs and turkey sausage bread before heading to church. Bubba was ordained to the office of a teacher at church by Grandpa, so it was a special day. He had been waiting for Grandpa to come down to do it since he turned 14 last month.

After church we headed home for lunch. Then everyone changed and packed up to head out. Bobby headed back north and everyone else was on their way to San Diego. Bubba wanted to go too, so they loaded up his stuff and they were on the road! Over the course of three days they packed up Grandma Strickland's entire house into the back of a moving truck and brought it back up north.
Lindsay and Grandpa made sure to send me photos while they were away and it was nice to see Bubba spending time with all of his extended family. He was fed very well and had a good time! It made me feel good. :)

On Tuesday afternoon Grandpa and Lindsay drove the kids over to Mission Bay for some afternoon fun.
That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....
So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
