Tubby Tubbs is nine and we just can't believe it. He is growing up into a big, little dude. He is 54.5 inches and 93 pounds. He definitely has girth on his side. I don't think he is a kid others will be messing with on the playground. Tubbs is also the type of boy who doesn't take gruff from others. It's probably because he has a big brother and has been in trained in the art of harassment. Watching him scrap with his older brother is a mixture of emotions. Its comical and entertaining, while at the same time you want them to stop. He can definitely hold his own. He has grown almost two inches since last birthday, but I am waiting for him to really sprout.

We thought Tubbs might be expecting some birthday balloons above his bed, like we did for Bubba....so we had to get a little creative. Grandma and Grandpa sent him birthday money so we put it in balloons, but we hung the nine balloons in the shower....hoping he was the first one awake like usual. I think when he woke up he was kind of mopey...until Luke told him to get in the shower and get ready for school.
Breakfast was daddy's chocolate chip croissants and eggs. He received a Target gift card from Bubba and Wiggy and an Ipod Touch from mom and dad. He was very, very happy!! :)
Tubbs had a birthday party a week before his actual birthday so that one of his friends was able to attend. Once the boys reach 8, we started a birthday tradition, where the boys could invite a maximum of three friends to celebrate with them. For Tubbs this was a challenge. Tubbs has so many different friends and groups of kids he spends time with. He narrowed down the three buddies to Colby, Abelino, and Josh.
Tubbs celebration started on a Saturday afternoon and first stop was going to see "The Crood's" at the theater.
After the movie they all came back to the house for some pizza. After pizza, the boys all took swings at the piñata. After the piñata, the boys had a water balloon fight, followed by cake and ice cream. It was a whirlwind birthday party!
On Tubbs's birthday, I picked him up for lunch at McDonald's, along with his buddy Tanner.
Grandma and Grandpa Hogue came down after school to celebrate Tubbs actual birthday with him. His birthday was on a Friday, which meant he got to kick off the weekend with some gifts and good food. Grandma and Grandpa gave Tubbs a Lego set and a scooter that sparks when you put your foot on the brake. After a birthday dinner at Red Robin we came home and had a chocolate cake that Grandma made. It was YUMMY!!
I love Easter Sunday.
It's obviously a very special day. Arguably, the most significant day in the history of the world....spiritually speaking. It's a day I look forward to each Spring for so many reasons. We really luck out here in Bakes, because we always end up having perfect weather. This year was no exception. We had a few clouds and sprinkles later in the day, but we managed to squeeze in our traditional family photos before church. I love seeing my family all dressed up on Easter Sunday. Church starts at 9am this year...so it was a little stressful getting everyone up, out of their Easter basket treats, dressed, smiling for pictures and to church on time. It's work...but somehow we manage to get it done....and look good doing it. :) Last year church didn't start until 1pm, so we had a lazy Easter morning....not this year.
Aunt Jenny got Wiggy this adorable purple dress for Christmas. It was so perfect I saved it for Easter. (i am such a mean mommy) :)
Since I had her dress picked out I tried to find something the same color. I hadn't look at the dress since Christmas when I looked at Shabby Apple for my dress. I ended up picking the completely wrong shade of purple since I somehow remembered Wiggy's dress being much darker than it was.
Right after church, Grandma and Grandpa Hogue came to the house for an early dinner. We all watched the kids hunt for their Easter eggs that they colored the night before. The boys were nice enough to give Wiggy is a10 second head start before they came pummeling after her.
While I slaved away at work over Easter Break, Luke and the kids played at home.
Some friends from church organized an Easter Egg hunt at the park down the street from the house. I kindly asked Mr. Mom if he would mind taking the kids down, so they could join in the fun. Each of the kids needed to bring ten plastic (filled) eggs for the hunt. Luke sent me pictures of their morning. Looks like a they all had a great time.
Luke may deny it, but he likes he likes hanging out and talking shop with the other moms. Hahahaha.
That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....
So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
