Beach Trip - Santa Monica

A few weeks ago we decided to take one day of Easter Break to go to he beach. Our first intention was to go to Ventura since the outlets were closeby and I could take everyone to Cafe Rio in Oxnard for lunch.
Well, the night before we were supposed to go we decided to head to LA instead. It sounded GREAT to me, because being the "foodie" that I am, there were a few food stops we could make.

Our first stop was the "Griddle Cafe" in Hollywood. A friend from work told me about the Red Velvet pancakes a few months ago so I somehow managed to talk Luke into taking us. We had to wait 45 minutes but I do believe it was worth and I would go back for sure! We all ordered something different and we all ate off each other's plates so we could try it all.
The star attraction...dusted with cocoa and cream cheese frosting on top.

Bubba got the peanut butter crunch french toast and it was my favorite. In fact, I am craving them now!! :)
Tubbs got the Oreo cookie pancakes. You can't tell, but there are a stack of three pancakes larger than the plate! (I think these were Bubba's favorite.)

The aftermath:
Everything we tried was incredible. Petunia and I shared some regular french toast and Luke got the breakfast tacoes with chipotle sauce.

Next up...Santa Monica Beach!
Luke buried both the boys in the sand. Petunia was very confused and kept trying to throw sand on their faces.

Last stop...was of course....to Sprinkles Cupcakes. Can't leave LA without a stop here. For 10 days in April they offer a brown sugar praline cupcake I really wanted to try. Its a caramel cupcake with a caramel cream cheese frosting...with pralines on top! Heaven!

Ha, ha! I love Scout throwing sand in her buried brother's face. Priceless. Also, we headed to San Diego during spring break and stayed pretty close to the temple. I noticed there was a Sprinkles very close by but Nick didn't want to give it a try. He said he doubted they are better than cakeballs. What do you say?

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
