We had two weekends in June we traveled to San Diego for Padres games, so I thought I would roll them into one post. These games will be our last until Labor Day weekend, so we enjoyed these getaways to the max. The weekend of June 12th we faced the Dodgers. We drove down on Friday morning and arrived to the park after eating a late lunch at Casa Guadalajara.
I really liked this guy's shirt, who worked at Hodad's, so I asked for a photo.
Wiggy always spins this Padres charity wheel for $5. In May she spun and it landed on a free shirt, but they didn't have her size. This time she got to pick anything from the prize table, so she got a jersey. We were pretty happy!
On Saturday we headed to the zoo after breakfast. Last time we went was 2010, so it's been five years. Hard to believe how quick time passes.
The weather was GREAT and we all had a good time. After getting back to the hotel we cleaned up and walked a few blocks to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.
Sunday morning we ate and headed over to the park for another game. Wiggy got her face painted in typical fashion and the kids got their hats autographed by two pitchers...Vincent and Kelly.
The last weekend of June we were very excited to have Grandma and Grandpa Baer join us. They drove down to our house Thursday and we all drove down Friday morning.
I made some cinnamon rolls for us to enjoy before we hit the road.....
Friday afternoon we checked into the Omni Hotel, so we were able to walk right out and into the park. We were able to get into the park early today and watch batting practice down on the field, so we were pretty excited. One of the pitchers (Brandon Maurer) came by afterwards and signed a few things, including my mom's Padres purse. He seemed like a really nice guy who was enjoying what he does for a living. He plays baseball and instead of being all cocky and ignoring the fans, he took 10 minutes to chat with kids and sign anything that was held in front of him.
Friday's game was extra fun because we also got to upgrade our seats for cheap, right before the game. We ended up on the 3rd base side, only 24 rows up from the field. We had a great view alongside 3rd base.
Walking across the sky bridge to the hotel after the Padres WON!
Saturday morning Wiggy was up bright and early because she wanted to go swimming. She woke me up, so we headed down there for an hour. Thankfully the pool was heated, so I agreed to get in for a bit.
After getting ourselves all cleaned up we headed to the USS Midway for the afternoon. My parents went to breakfast at the hotel and then headed over to spend the day with Aunt Thelma, Uncle Dennis and Grandma Strickland. We REALLY enjoyed the day on the Midway and I can't believe we had never made this visit before.
A Maverick impersonator outside the USS Midway. I couldn't stop laughing each time we passed him. It was great.
After 5pm we met up with my parents and drove over to Cheesecake Factory together for dinner. Yes...we enjoy the factory A LOT. I can't get enough of the raspberry lemonade quite honestly.
Sunday morning we had some breakfast at the hotel and then headed to the park. Today Wiggy was a tiger. Haha.
Military Sunday meant today they are saluting the U.S. Navy. It was really cool when the helicopters flew overhead right before the game started.
I honestly can't believe I forgot to post on the big guy's award. I love to embarrass him on occasion (as well as brag) so I need to make sure I have this documented!
Let me start by saying Luke didn't even tell me he received this award. (Shocker)
One of his teachers left me a message on Facebook about doing something for him as a surprise at their staff breakfast. I do remember Luke mentioning in March or April that his boss was nominating him for an award. That was it. He said nothing else....so I forgot. The beginning of May he sends me a text at work, telling me we have a dinner the first part of June. I put it in my calendar but I have no idea what it's for. Fast forward to the message from one of his teachers. Anyways, I am very proud of this guy here. He really does work his tush off and does it all for the kids. He really takes care of and loves his students. He pushes his teachers to do their best and they might not always be happy with him, he does care about his kids getting the best education they can.
The cake they made him for the staff breakfast. They surprised him with a gift card and cake. The kids and I were there too. He thought we were there to drop off muffins for the breakfast.
A week after the staff breakfast there was the awards dinner at Rio Bravo Country Club. His boss and Asst. Superintendent were there and said some nice words about him. It was really nice to see.
I really do hate showing a whole month into one post, but that's what happens when I fall behind. Luke's last day of work was officially June 5th. The following day we headed down to Newport Beach to watch little Cassandra get married. We dropped off each of the kids at a different friend's house, to spend the day. We left town around 8:30 and got home around 12 hours later. Busy day!
Jules was the Maid of Honor and she was beautiful!
Giving Cass a squeeze as we docked and got off the boat.
We picked up Wiggy on our way home and by the time we stopped at the Riverwalk for dinner, she was passed out in the chair. We couldn't wake her up for a few minutes. Thankfully she didn't fall out of the chair. :)
Wiggy's hair for church the following day. I did a side braid and then tucked it all in with bobby pins. I needed a flower to kind of cover the pins, but I had to take a photo of it. I love doing her hair.....when she holds still. Haha.
Since I took Wiggy's photo I thought I needed to take some photos of the boys....even if they have no hair for me to braid. :)
Tubbs is stripped from his church clothes by the time he walks in the door, so there is no capturing him dressed up...today anyways.
Luke and I are still working the first week of the kids' summer vacation. That means Grandma and Grandpa Hogue to the rescue. This year we had the kids signed up for a one week tennis camp, at a nearby high school. It was organized by the school's tennis team and the kids LOVED it. It was 60-70 minutes long for five days. It was really well run and we all would've liked for it to be extended.
On Thursday they handed out shirts for the kids and they took photos on Friday.
Wiggy took plenty to trips to the park with grandpa. She also got a new stuffed animal from Target with some money grandma and grandpa gave her for her report card.
Tubbies had a physical with the pediatrician this week. He didn't like hanging out in his paper "robe" while waiting to get checked. He ended up getting two vaccines and thankfully didn't cry or freak out. :)
Wednesday morning big daddy gave grandma some dinero and asked her to take the kids to the Broken Yolk Cafe (near our house) before tennis camp. The kids were ecstatic to say the least.
Hot cocoa all the way around.
That's how they roll on a summer morning. Haha.
One week of summer break on the books. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa for all you do.
So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
Established October 9, 1999, we met in March of 1998 when Katie was "hanging out" with Luke's loser roommate. Although Luke didn't let Katie in on this fact until much later....Katie eventually kicked the loser to the curb the summer of 1998. We started dating later that year in December and were engaged in May 1999 when Katie could no longer resist the Hogue charm! What a whirlwind!
Our first "bug," as born in 2002 and was joined by his partner in crime in 2004. Often referred to as the "Hogue Tag Team" these boys are mischievious, snuggly and always up for a good time! Our third bug shook the tag team up with her pink bows and frills. She was born in August 2009 and has turned our tag team into a trio!
