New Year's Eve Conversation

This folks will top 2008's list as thee conversation of 2008. It just so happens that it took place only hours before the end of the year.
The scene: All four of us have just scarfed down numerous ice cream treats and are burrowed into blankets in the living room watching "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
Luke was nice enough to get us firewood this afternoon, so I was cozied up on the floor next to the fire, leaning up against the ottoman. Tubbs snuggles in next to me and begins to rub my belly. I look at him and say "Are you rubbing mama's fat belly?" He then replies, "No---you are making me a baby sister." I just laugh because I don't know what to say to that.
When the movie is over I tell Luke what Tubbs said about my belly--and of course he finds it humorous. Bubba then looks at me thoughtfully and says, "Mommy, how do babies start?"
That is the million dollar questions isn't it?! :)
I look at him and then tell Luke that Bubba has a question for him. Bubba repeats his question for Luke and I am anxiously waiting to see what my genius husband is going to come up with.
Luke then says, "Well, a bird delivers a seed and mommy plants it and takes care of it in her belly."
Bubba laughs, curls up his nose and says "That's not how babies start."
I am pleading to God in my head that he doesn't really know how babies start because the kid is only six. He also doesn't ride the bus home from school, so there is only so much information that can be disseminated on the 1st grade playground during recess and lunch.
Bubba then tells us his version;"I think the baby starts out as a little peanut....and then it grows into a bigger peanut. And the mommy waters it."
This is about as far as he got because I think he could see the weird look on my face. I really didn't want to embarrass him or try to clarify anything because I am really OK with him never asking this question again. At least---I am good for at least another 5 years.
Now...I know the bird theory wasn't the best reponse but what heck. If anyone has a better suggestion---besides the truth, be sure to let me know.
I guess for right now, Bubba can think he began as a peanut and mommy watered him!

I have never had that question yet. Thankfully. I did have the "how did the babies get out of your belly?" I will have to say that is one nice thing about my c-section (the ONLY nice thing) I showed my scar and said the doctors gave mommy some nice medicine and cut open my belly and pulled the babies out, then they sewed me up. A few grossed out looks on two faces and one (Alexis) very concerned face. The question was answered and so far never asked again. I dread the day. I had my "TALK" when I was in 4th grade. I was hoping to not have to give that talk 'til the night before they get married...we shall see.

Well, I have had "the talk" with K last year. She had asked questions in the past and I was as accurate as I could be without going into details, for example "a part from the mommy and a part from the daddy come together to make a baby" that always seemed to suffice. I finally realized that she was getting some info from school, TV etc and I decided I had to be FIRST and I had to be ACCURATE with information so she would not be confused when she heard different things in the world. So my advice is just that. Keep it simple and let them tell you what they want to hear, you'll know how much info is too much info, but be truthful. I'm not sure how long the bird theory is going to last!

Pray for guidance, or for the Second Coming. Either should make your answer easier. :D

Tanner asked this question while driving in the car. Luckily he was in the back of the van so I asked Luke what I should tell him because this was like the 3rd time he asked. Luke looked at me and said tell him you have eggs. Which I guess is true, I just pictured me sitting on an egg at night when the kids were sleeping. I told him to think of something else.

Belen already asked the in and out questions. I told her Heavenly Father put it in there because he thought it was a safe place for the baby to grow. Another day she asked how, I said love put it there. Later she asked how again. I just repeated the same response and moved on. The out was easy; I told her how the baby really comes out and she was fine with that and never asked again. Good luck!

B asked me that one months ago and I was as shocked by it as you were! I wasn't so creative...just the barest of details on how it actually happens, but she kept asking more and more questions until she got a little more info out of me. Once B heard enough, she was quite finished with all her curiousity! Now of course we're having the "How does baby get out" queries. Once again, she (and now A too) is thrilled to have a mother who tells it like it is!

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
