It seems so long ago.....
Bubba's first day of Kindergarten and Tubbs' first day of pre-school.
Look how little they are!!! :)
Today my boys started 4th and 2nd grade. Like someone once said, "The days are long, but the years are quick." I cannot believe how grown up my boys are.
This year will go down in infamy though. Today was the first day I was "ditched."
Yes....I was ditched by my seven year old son because he didn't want to be seen with me walking him to class. At one point, during the drive to school, he asked if I could MEET him in his classroom. He said "everyone" would think he needed help finding his classroom.
HUH?!
Who asks their mothers those kind of things?
I often find myself wondering what my mom did or would've done in these situations. Was my mother as sappy and clingy as me? Did she walk me to my classes and how old was I when she stopped? Did I not want her to walk me to classes and did I ever ditch her? I don't remember much about the first day of school as a kid....so who knows. BUT, I always make a point to take pictures of all the kids and try to make the first day special. Unfortunately, this year was the first year I didn't take the entire first day off of work. I think I probably should've since I was pretty much dazed and confused after realizing my 2nd grader was embarassed of his mother.
Me.
Am I really that embarrassing?!
After dinner tonight Luke sat down with Tubbs to talk to him about his day at school and ditching his mom. They had a little heart to heart and then came the quote of the year:
Luke: "Tubbs...I have good news and bad news for you. I'll give you the good news first. The good news is you're just like your daddy. The bad news is I know every move you're gonna make."
Tubbs just sat there and gave him this look. I was standing at the sink doing dishes and wondering what I did to deserve another Luke in the house.
Just kidding.
Kind of.
Anyways.....we all survived the first day of school. It was also Petunia's first day back to the babysitter. SO...it was a big day. A day to get back into routines, whether we like it or not. Bubba had a GREAT day at school and couldn't stop gushing about his teacher and friends. I was very happy and I know its going to be a great school year. It doesn't hurt that his best friend is in his class too.
My nine year old wasn't embarrassed to take a pic with his mama before he ran out to find his friends! :)
