Surprise, Surprise!

Happy Birthday Pops!!

Last Friday we traveled east of Sacramento to see my family where we had a surprise birthday party on Saturday night. The party was for my brother who was turning the big 3-0 and my dad who is the big 6-0 today.
This party was so much fun to plan....I LOVE surprise parties! We told my brother it was a surprise party for dad and we told my dad it was a surprise party for my brother. While it rained ALL DAY on Saturday, my dad and brother kept each other occupied running around town doing odds and ends. It was perfect. (A big thank you to Bob and Lindsay for having the party in their new home, where we had a house full of family!-- If I counted correctly we had 13 adults and 14 .5 kids (I had to count Lindsay's pregnant belly) :)
When my dad and brother walked in the door and we shouted "Surprise" I can't imagine what was running through their heads because they didn't know we were surprising them. It was fun to watch. We of course think we're so clever!
The second best surprise was my grandma.... (who lives in Idaho) showing up! We were all shocked and of course delighted. I think its been over a year since the last time I saw her so it was very special. I know it meant a lot to my dad and brother too!

What a clever idea to put it on each other. Looks like it all went great. What is Californian's thinking??? I agree...I usually look at the monetary value in the props first...I don't know what kind of morons came out of the woodwork, but the sure seem to have come out in flocks!!!

Happy B-Day to BLOB and Big Daddy Steve. Also, Congrats to Bob on the new house. Wish I could be there. Give the guy with the fuzzy stuff on his chin a big kiss for me...

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
