Swim Season 2011

Swim season...how I love you...and hate you at the same time. I love watching the kids swim. I love watching them get better and swim faster. I love socializing with friends under the Simpson DDS canopy. :)
I hate the flies that swarm me at practices...and the unforgiving heat at the meets. I hate setting my alarm on Saturday mornings and rushng out of the house before most reasonable people even think about getting out of bed. I HATE replacing goggles over and over and OVER all season long. (We did set a record. One pair lasted less than one swim meet before breaking.)
Its a love/hate relationship.
But in the end, love wins out.
In fact, we are considering enrolling the boys in club swimming year around. I am just debating on which club to join and the potential time commitment since they practice up to four times a week. Bubba says he doesn't want to swim until next summer....but thats only because he is holding out for a "club Nintendo DSi" team he can participate on. Tubbs of course was easy to bribe when I told him I would pay him $1 for every practice he went to and $5 every time he set a new personal time record at a meet. He was in like Flinn.

This swim season seemed to really go by fast. We even started practices a month earlier this year...but the swim championships was a week sooner.
I love these boys in their skin tight black speedos! :)
Modeling....

Coldest swim meet of the season---out at Wasco

She can't wait to be on the swim team too.

Two peas in a pod

Lots of serious DSi playing was involved....to better help them concentrate on their strokes.

Someone fell asleep on the way to the meet. Nice.

Luke modeling his new team shirt. Sweet.

His goggles fell off when he dove it.

Can't take a picture without the fingers behind the head

She stays entertained by playing with all the goggles

Lunch of champions....

A word from our sponsors

Pretty happy when the finals were over. Proud of you boys!

Overall, Tubbs placed 3rd in the 25M breast stroke, 12th in the 25M free style, and 12th in the 25M back stroke. Bubba placed 9th in the 50M back stroke, 9th in the 50M butterfly, and 13th in his 50M free style.
We are looking forward to boys building up some endurance over the next year and seeing what happens next summer. Good times!

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
