Five Birds and Good Intentions

My dad is the best dad in the world-- (Sorry to disappoint all of you who thought YOU had the best dad in the world).
Monday through Friday he sends me (and others) a "Thought of the Day." On Fridays its a longer thought of the day and I really enjoy reading them. Below is last Friday's thought and I liked it so much I wanted to share! Love ya Pops!

----------------------------------------------------
Five birds are sitting on a telephone wire. Two decide to fly south. How many are left?

Most people would say three. Actually, all five are left. You see, deciding to fly isn’t the same as actually doing it. If a bird really wants to go somewhere, it’s got to point itself in the right direction, jump off the wire, flap its wings, and keep flapping until it gets where it wants to go.
So it is with most things. Good intentions are not enough. It’s not what we want, say, or think that makes things happen; it’s what we do.
I frequently think of writing thank-you, birthday, and congratulatory notes. Unfortunately, only a sad few of these good sentiments ever make it to paper. Still, if I don’t look too closely, I can delude myself into thinking that based on my good thoughts I’m a gracious and grateful person. A truer and less admirable picture of my character is drawn by my actions.
In the end, we either do or don’t do. We either make the time to do the things we want to and should do, or we make excuses. As Alfred Adler said, “Life happens at the level of events, not of words. Trust movement.”
What do you want to do? Do you want to take a course, change your job, lose weight, make new friends, or spend more time with and appreciate more the ones you have?
What’s stopping you from jumping off the wire and flapping your wings?

By Michael Josephson reminding you that character counts.

Your Dad is a great man indeed. I have treasured memories from my childhood of him cooking fried chicken Sunday afternoons and of course pancakes after a sleepover. You are definately lucky to have him as your father. But sorry to say, I have the Best Dad ever! Somedays I wonder how I was so lucky to be his daughter.

That Stop Wasn't On My Itinerary....

So the Hogue's made it to Florida for our first official family vacation. It was Sawyer's first plane ride....and Simon's first plane ride that he can remember. We were excited....the boys were stoked. We had everything we needed! But it seems that Sawyer packed something with him that wasn't on our checklist: a big case of pneumonia. Yes, the little fella made it almost one whole day in Florida before he started heading downhill fast. Our 2nd day in Orlando we were in the Urgent Care south of Cocoa Beach. (By the way, to see a doctor more quickly, it helps if you vomit all over the waiting room in front of the receptionist. Little tip for ya) After chest x-rays they advised us to head to the ER in Melbourne, where they eventually admitted him to the hospital. So, we had 3 night deluxe accommadations at the Holmes Regional Medical Center. The little whipper snapper was a trooper though! The nurses loved him, thankfully, and made us all feel right at home. We were going to send postcards out with pictures of the hospital since we spent 40% of our trip there...but they didn't have any. Imagine that!Hmmm.....maybe its something they should consider.
